The Beginning and Historical Process of the Emirate of Botan
The Emirate of Botan (Kurdish: Mîrektîya Bota) was one of the Kurdish emirates in Southeastern Anatolia under the Ottoman Empire between 1338-1855.
BOTAN EMIRATES
The Botan Family migrated from Central Asia to Mesopotamia in the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. The first name of the Botan Tribe was Lorin Tribe, and after settling in Mesopotamia, it was named Botan Tribe. According to written historical sources, the first known leader of the Botan Tribe is Velid Bey. However, the origin of the tribe in Central Asia and when it was founded is not known for certain.
In the 13th century, the Botan tribe’s population increased rapidly and its influence in the region strengthened with the expansion of the lands they captured. In this process, the tribe was elevated to the status of a monarchical emirate and the Emirate of Botan was officially established.
